WHICH COUNTRIES HAVE APPROVED COVID-19 VACCINES FOR EMERGENCY USE?

Globally, there are more than 200 Covid-19 vaccines in development at various stages. The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved two vaccines for emergency use: Pfizer-BioNTech and AstraZeneca.  There are three other vaccines in the final stages of the WHO’s assessment pipeline; these are SK Bio (in partnership with AstraZeneca), Serum Institute of India, and Sinopharm of China. In the U.S., the Federal Drug Administration has approved two vaccines for emergency use – Pfizer-BioNtech and Moderna. In the UK, the three approved vaccines are Pfizer-BioNtech, AstraZeneca and Moderna.

Other countries with medical research capacities are taking it upon themselves to develop and use their own vaccines, such as Russia’s Sputnik-V and China’s Sinovac.  Russia has already exported its vaccine for use in countries such as Algeria, Argentina, Belarus, Bolivia, Palestine, Paraguay, and Venezuela. China’s Sinovac has been approved for emergency use in a dozen countries, with varying degrees of efficacy from 50.38% in Brazil, to 91.25% in Turkey. Other vaccines in distribution or are available for order includes Johnson & Johnson, Sanofi, Janssen Pharmaceutica NV, Curevac, Novavax, and Valneva

Based on our research, over 70% of the world’s countries and major territories have already approved and acquired or are acquiring Covid-19 vaccines for their population. The following countries (and non-exhaustive list of territories) have approved one or more Covid-19 vaccines for use domestically, and has or will receive the vaccines in the near future to administer.  Please note that the majority of vaccines in distribution are vaccines that have been approved by the WHO.
