Which countries allow travelers to mail in their visa application?
In the course of our research for the Visa Adviser® apps, LHA Travel aggregates data on all countries and their visa issuance processes. The methods by which countries issue their visas vary: by in-person interviews, my mailing, online, on arrival, by email, and by executive order. In our previous blogs we discussed the countries that issue visas online and on arrival. In this blog we focus on countries that allow travelers who need a visa, to apply by mail.
Knowing if a country accepts a visa application submitted by mail is important for travelers because, by this method, they are given more control over the application process. The traveler can choose when to submit their application and how. Furthermore, the option to submit by mail, in some cases, can save the traveler from having to pay a courier or having to appear in person, if they happen to live a long distance from the consulate or embassy in their jurisdiction.
Currently the following countries allow visa by mail:
Afghanistan, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belarus, Belize, Bolivia, Botswana, Brunei, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cape Verde, Cambodia, Cameroon, Canada (NYC), Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Congo Democratic Republic, Cuba, Cyprus, Djibouti, Dominican Republic, Dominica, Egypt, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guinea, Guyana, Honduras, Indonesia, Iraq, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, South Korea, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mongolia, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Philippines, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Senegal, Serbia, South Sudan, Sudan, Suriname, Swaziland, Tanzania, Thailand, Togo, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
There are country-specific caveats to this mail-in process. Travelers should conduct some additional research to determine whether using the mail-in process is the best option for their specific travel needs.
